Lundar primarily is an agricultural community, with a number of settlers of Icelandic origin who left their New Iceland home off the shores of Lake Winnipeg to move to Lake Manitoba. They joined Metis and other locals. Today, it is well known for its shallow beaches along Lake Manitoba, as well as its plethora of geese that both migrate through and nest here. It is an area of mixed farming, with only moderate amounts of grain.
Situated in the Interlake, along Highway 6, it is on the pathway to northern Manitoba. It has a few local stores, including a service station, restaurant, Coop and hotel, all well-patronized by locals.
