At 650,000 square kilometers, Manitoba is nearly as large as Texas (695,600 sq km), yet has only 1,504,000 residents compared to Texas’ 31,800,000. That’s 4.7% of the population. That means vast empty spaces, except that, unlike Texas with its empty panhandle, we have a wealth of flora, fauna and geography. Travel throughout Manitoba brings such diverse experiences, both in terms of culture and nature, that it warrants weeks of travel to truly experience what it offers.
Almost all of our toruism occurs from mid-April to early November. Travel on isolated roads in winter certainly offers challenges and travel on our “winter roads” means you must be an extremely hardy sort. But over 90% of our population lives in central and southern Manitoba, where are road network are extensive.
Travel, in Manitoba, takes two primary forms: tourism and experiences, and purpose-driven or business travel.
While we do not have a wealth of government-run waypoints and rest facilities, there is an abundance of refueling stations, restaurants and small towns that offer a break from driving. In the past few years, we have seen hundreds of new EV charging stations, even in remote communities and along north-bound highways.
