In 1967, a prospector clsimed to have encountered several UFOs at Falcon Lake, and suffered burns from the objects. It has drwn thousands of UFO chasers since then, but it is the magnificent summer beaches, camping an recreation, along with winter skiiing and hiking that draw the regulars every year.
Falcon Lake, located in the far eastern part of the province along Highway 1, is one of the most sought-after camping areas in the provincial parks program. The beautiful, relatively shallow lake is a destination for the summer crowd, who also enjoy its excellent golf course. However, Falcon Lake also has a bustling winter season, with cross country skiing, snowmobile & snowshoe trails, hiking routes and even a “bunny” ski slope. This means that there always are a few locals and more seasonal visitors in the town, year round, even though the grocery store closes around Thanksgiving and re-opens in early spring.
