Once home to a large pulp and paper mill (hence, its nickname, Papertown), Pine Falls now is known for great pickerel (walleye) fishing in the Winnipeg River (join the annual fishing derby), and fantastic surrounding natural beauty. Nestled well into the wilderness of eastern central Manitoba, it has limited highway access, but the roads are good. Like many towns in the eastern part of the province, Pine Falls has a hydro generating dam that supplies much of the province and nearby states as part of the Manitoba Hydro network.
