Manitobans with Heart almost is a redundancy. Outsiders know us for our neighbourliness. Maybe not as neighbourly as the Maritimes, but certainly top-tier. This menu item and the pages under reflect the diversity of our compassion and willingness to help those in need. Manitobans with Heart will explore the various small (and larger) stories about caring for our communities. The stories will come from Winnipeg, Brandon or even the smalest hamlet in the province, proving that we are Friendly Manitoba and the Heart of Canada, as our marketing slogan declares.
Periodically, we will post blogs and articles, or add to the various community pages. If you have a story to tell about our generosity, kindness or compassion, let us know! But if you, by some oddity, have a complaint, let us know, too, so it can be remedied. And read our posts whenever you can.
Our first story is a about a simple act of donating an unused item, a book. there is nothing unique about free little lending libraries. They occur throughout the world. But we go the extra mile.
The next article will be about Flavie, a Catholic-based centre that provides free household goods to underpriveleged people in Winnipeg. Again, not unique, except for the scale of donations, longevity and the breadth of people benefitting.
More Than Giving, Manitobans With Heart Care
Manitoba has its share of negative incidents, but almost always, the public reaction to a selfish act or someone’s misfortune is to step up and help. We have stories to share in that arena, too.
Manitoba’s charitable giving and volunteerism (excluding church donations) exceeds almost all of the rest of North America (except Maritimes). Not unusual for us. We value each other.
And, of course, our welcoming attitude shows in the huge volume of immigrants to our provinc, with Filipino, South asian and Chinese leading the surge.
